Will America Ever Bridge The Racial Divide?

Posted: April 3, 2012 in Politics, Race Relations

In wake of the recent tragedy involving the death of Trayvon Martin in FL, America has once again been thrust into the arena of the debate involving race. Trayvon was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, who was labeled a “white Hispanic” by some mainstream media outlets, and thus began a flurry of racial attacks that were relentless. Since there has been no conclusive evidence to this point that shows that Zimmerman had a racial motive, it would be appropriate and wise to put the racial rhetoric on hold and let the justice system do its work. I do not criticize or ridicule those who have been passionately vocal in their support of Trayvon Martin. I under their notion of wanting Zimmerman to be arrested for his actions, and they have a right to vocalize their opinions. However, there have been some tactics used that proves that America is still so bitterly racially divided.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson has gotten involved. This definitely gives one a visual of a red flag been raised. Sharpton and Jackson are class warfare tyrants who capitalize on widening the racial divide and use tragedies for manipulation and political gain. One has to wonder: Does Jackson and Sharpton really care about the Martin family or is this another situation that enables them to play the “race card” without any substantial evidence just to elicit an emotional response and portray the African-American population as “victims”?
Also, the fact that the New Blank Panther Party but a bounty of $10,000 on the head of George Zimmerman not only highlights a racial divide, but also allows to confront the issue of violence that is not necessary and advocates revenge in substitute of lawful justice.
President Obama, following the advice of his former Chief Of Staff Rahm Emmanuel who once stated to “never let a crisis go to waste”, invoked himself into the case by stating that if he would’ve had a son, he would’ve looked identical to Trayvon Martin. It would’ve been simple and encouraging enough to issue out a statement of prayers and support for the Martin family, but the President’s racial and political pandering once again proves America is still racially divided.
The fact that George Zimmerman is a non-black that killed a black has aroused attention nationwide. If we want to bring attention racial issues, let me reveal these staggering facts: 43% of all murder victims in 2007 alone were African American, 93.1% of whom were killed were African Americans. Victimizations of African Americans from violent crime which include the following; rape/sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple Assault was 24.3% in 2007, with the highest percentages of victimizations within the age ranges of 15-24 totaling a percentage greater than 38%.
I don’t hear cries of agony and concern over these from the Rev Sharpton or Rev. Jackson. You know why? I’ll tell you—it disputes their narrative of black suppression by white individuals ONLY.
It is also aggravating and disingenuous that people always point to racism when opponents of President Obama’s policies voice their opinions. Short- term memory loss can be credited when left wingers and liberals forget the fact that Obama won the largest share of white support of any Democrat in a two-man race since 1976. A stunning 54 percent of young white voters supported Obama, compared with 44 percent who went for McCain, the senator from Arizona. In the past three decades, no Democratic presidential nominee has won more than 45 percent of young whites. My point is simply this: Barack Obama was able to be a racially transcendent candidate whose candidacy proved America has progressed towards bridging the racial divide.
Will America TOTALLY bridge the racial divide? As of right now, I’m reluctant to believe so. Until race can be a issue that can be discussed in terms of improvement, engagement and an embrace of culture, instead of an instant knee-jerk reaction and a tool to divide and conquer, America will divided on a racial and political frontImage

Agreed D, it shouldn’t matter what race of the perpetrator or the victim is.. wrong is wrong, period. They fact that this case has turned into a racial movement is ridiculous. Why is it even an issue? Why are people, who have no first hand knowledge of the details of this case, going ape shit on tv? It is as if Sharpton and Jackson have been waiting in the wings pining for something to happen so they can feel relevant again. Would this be such a big deal if the victim was a white male? The fact is, a man killed a 17 year old kid. That is what the focus should be on. The fact that he is being tried in the media and defended as well, for that matter, is so counterproductive that it is only going to cause more tensions. Nice article, Demetrius, you make me proud to be your friend.

Someone had to release that 911 tape and on that tape you clearly hear the dispatcher tell Zimmerman not to follow the young man. I also heard Zimmerman say a racial slur,” f*ing coon” Joe Oliver defender of the Martin shooting stated, “Zimmerman did in fact say that”. This is why it gained national attention. Zimmerman should have waited for the police instead of taking the law in his own hands in which he was judge and jury.

Communism exists in America today…Racism, a natural thing, Bigotry a hateful thing. When we can speak to what makes us all …individuals who inherited certain qualities and strengths. As soon as you put us all in “this trick bag” of “Racism…you are doing the devils work…setting up US and Them…for we aren’t all alike…..

    After watching both videos.
Do you think the new Black Panther Party are no better then the Ku Klux Klan?

At one time in history the Black Panther Party were a bunch of respected activists that wanted fair treatment for black people in America. (I don’t believe that, but rather than sabotage the sentiment lets say they were….

Now that you look at them they’ve turned into an anti-white terrorist group in America.

Let’s compare the new Black Panther Party to the Ku Klux Klan.

Here’s a video of a Ku Klux Klan rally.
Here’s a video of a new Black Panther Party rally?
Do you really see a difference here people?

Both sides want the other side gone.

Both sides threaten each other with genocide.

Both sides want to be the dominant race.

Demetrius I am just grateful that you and I see things vastly different than those who would want to continue to see things by color. You are an awesome person inside and out and I look forward to many of your future blogs and writings!
