Good article. You mentioned that prayer can cause God to act. The examples you gave were helping an alcoholic or a depressed person. Then you say the power of prayer faces no limits. My issue with prayer is that the evidence indicates that it does have limits. I have never seen prayer repair a serious wound like a lost arm or leg. It always seems that claimed answers to prayer involve invisible illnesses where the answer is not obvious and is very subjective. This has caused me to seriously doubt the power of prayer. I have been praying for over 40 years and finally had to admit that I have not seen a clear answer to a prayer. The results for prayers for healing, for example, are very random. Sometimes the person gets well, and sometimes they do not. Also prayer is a one-sided conversation. It is never 100% clear that God is speaking to me. Its all based on a feeling or a subjective sensation. I would like to hear your thoughts on my concerns. Thanks.

Powell's behavior may be explained by the curious phenomena of many once-respected public officials who arguably "peak" years before they're ready to gracefully retreat into private life: They languish in obscurity and, being uncomfortable with this newfound irrelevance, tend to gravitate to those who prime their egos and elevate them to a useful status once again. It seems quite obvious to me, and perhaps to you as well, based on your opinions in this post, that Powell suffers from the ugly condition I call "Self-Importance Syndrome." The arguments he makes about the Republican party are non-sensical and smack of liberal talking points. Powell makes no tangible and logical arguments to defend his "opinions" about racism being solely in the GOP because, as we all know from valid documentation, Powell himself was the target of numerous racial epithets from Democrats when he worked for Bush Jr. It's sad when a real example of opportunity in this country -- a black boy from Harlem who rises to such prominence within the Republican party of the USA -- now finds the truth shrouded by his own selfish and futile attempts to feed into his disease of Self-Importance. The truth is right under his "dark-veined" nose -- Colin Powell has become a Tool for the Obama Administration. All else be damned...
